Dropper Butterfly Painting

Rolled paper towel forms the body of a butterfly, then color drops bloom across its wings. Big visual payoff for small effort.

🧒 Ages 3-5, 6-8⏱ 30 min🐛 Insects

How to do it

  1. 1

Cut a paper towel in half and roll it tightly around a wooden stick.

  2. 2

Hot-glue the rolled towel onto cardboard and shape it into a butterfly outline.

  3. 3

Mix water and food coloring in separate cups.

  4. 4

Use a dropper to drip color across the butterfly and watch the towel absorb it.

Tips & extensions

Watered-down paint works just as well as food coloring if that's what you have on hand.
